Historic Old Yaquina Bay Lighthouse can be found just at the north end of the Newport bridge on Highway 101. It is in the Yaquina Bay State Park, formerly part of the homestead of Lester and Sophroni Baldwin. It was constructed in 1871 but was only commisioned for three years as the larger lighthouse at Yaquina Head was thought to be more effective.

The light sits atop the Keepers house, which was the first of such structures to be built in Oregon. The Lightkeeper Charles H. Pierce, and his wife Sarah, had nine children, seven lived in the house and sometimes helped with the duties.
